Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA): Introduction

The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) certification will advance your career by ensuring that you have the skills to successfully manage and troubleshoot system environments running on the Microsoft Windows operating system.

The MCSA on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 is an independent certification for Windows Server 2003 developed by Microsoft. It is suitable for IT professionals working in the typically complex computing environment of medium-to-large organizations. An MCSA on Windows Server 2003 is expected to have at least 1 year of experience implementing and administering a network operating system.

The Windows Server 2003 certification requirements for MCSA differ from those for MCSA on Windows 2000. Thus, it is necessary to complete the entire Windows 2000 track or the entire Windows Server 2003 track in order to become certified as an MCSA. However, if you complete your MCSA certification in Windows 2000, you can avail an upgrade path that will enable you to update your certification to Windows Server 2003.

Benefits of MCSA Certification

• MCSA Certifications are among the most specialized certifications available today.
• Microsoft Certifications give you industry recognition for your expertise in Microsoft products and technologies.
• Industry trend shows that with each certification there is an increase in the salary of certificate holders. Additionally, multiple certifications directly correlate to further increases.
• According to Fairfield Research survey on certified professionals, Microsoft Certifications give 12.6% salary increase.
• MCSA's reported average annual income is in the range $57,000 - $59,000 according to various surveys.
• MCSA coupled with certifications like Cisco CCNA gives you a further 4.17% increase.

Pre-requisites for MCSA

Prior to MCSA course, the applicants have to know basics of OS, networking, TCP/IP and Windows. An applicant without the above knowledge will find it very difficult to proceed. The A+/Network+/MCP Certification is highly recommended as a prerequisite for MCSA students.
